In a letter to the editor
published today in the state's largest newspaper, my friend Karla Dial, managing editor of School Reform News
, reminds us that it is wrong to assume that "homeschooling parents are guilty of a crime until they can prove otherwise. Leveling new regulations on families who legitimately homeschool their children will have little impact on the rare ones who enable truancy. In general, homeschooled children do at least as well academically as their peers in public school. In most cases, they do far better."
