California Democrats on teachers' unions: "They're awful."

Slate political columnist Mickey Kaus is challenging California Sen. Barbara ("You can call me Senator") Boxer in the Democratic primary, calling himself a "common sense Democrat." Kaus attended the California Democratic Convention to hand out leaflets and talk to delegates. His message wasn't well-received, except for one part:

Several conventiongoers said what Democrats of child-rearing age often say--roughly, "I disagree with everything in here except the part about the teachers' unions. They're awful." You have to wonder if these unions' leaders know just how despised they are.
